A/Prof Dharshi Karalapillai

A/Prof Dharshi Karalapillai is a dual trained anaesthetist and Intensive care physician. He is a Staff Intensivist and a Visiting Anaesthetist at Austin Health. His interests include the perioperative management of the critically ill surgical patient and perioperative echocardiography.

He has previously completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Perioperative Ultrasound at the University of Melbourne, the National Board of Echocardiography Advanced PTEeXAM and is currently completing a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound. His research interests include perioperative ventilation and respiratory management, has he been the principle investigator of numerous clinical trials.

He is a previous recipient of a major ANZCA research grant, the Boots Young Investigator award and the ASA Kevin MacCaul prize. He has also completed a PhD from the University of Melbourne, is an Associate Professor of the Department of Critical Care,University of Melbourne and is a previous fellowship examiner for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
